We asked this question to one of the founders of our international school, Nata Novoselova. That's what she says.
“Breaking” and not working can be anything!
Even the best expert, even with a lot of experience.
Especially in a situation where, for example, the client does not have a request for career guidance!
We often work with teenagers.
And then there's "it's complicated." The parent pays for the service and he wants to help his child acquire a profession and answer the question “Who to be?”, and the beneficiary is a teenager.
Who does not need any career guidance (most likely).
You don’t have to answer the question, “Who should I be?”
And even more so, he does not want to think through his educational trajectory [here is a trajectory in the cinema you can think, but not educational].
There is one problem - in that period of life, when the family and school puts before the teenager the question "Who do you want to be?", he does not want to answer this question, but wants to walk, fall in love, be friends and always have spring (at least in his heart).
It's hard to work with someone who doesn't have a request.
It's very difficult to work with a teenager who's been forced by their parents [and sometimes lured into vocational training].
And here, friends, career guidance may not work.
The number one reason why career guidance may not work:
The teenager simply does not do any tasks and does not pass the diagnosis.
[Option No. 2 - does "just like", "I'm here only two points could come up with out of 8, sorry ...", "I had my grandmother's anniversary and I didn't have time ..."]
Reason number two:
The teenager deliberately “deceives” the professional and everyone else (including himself, unfortunately) and writes not what he thinks / wants, but just writes something!
Reason number three:
The teenager ended up in the office [at the Zoom-consultation] with a career counselor when he had BIG problems. Unhappy love, divorce of parents, difficulties in communication with peers and others. The most important thing here is that there is no mood, strength and resources to think about yourself, your future and... make plans and set goals.
Reason number four:
Sometimes parents bring children to the program at 10 or 11 years old. And it could be early. Sometimes early and 13. It is very important that the child/teenager wants someone to help him choose his profession and future education.
Reason number five:
The most interesting and delicate - career guidance is not necessary. Parents. They all know, all decided and waited from the expert-professional only confirmation of their decisions and plans. And when that doesn't happen [it's normal that diagnostics show ONE picture and parents see theirs], career guidance doesn't exactly work.
Friends, anything may not work or work as we expect. It's normal.
Any good expert consultant should develop an important quality – the ability to look philosophically at the different results of their activities.
And do ... work on mistakes ;
All great client cases and let your career guidance work
