Career guidance - is it just counseling?

Destroy the stereotype that career guidance is only one-on-one counseling with a client.

The Punkt B team decided that the answer to the article’s question should start with another question:

When did career guidance become popular in Russia?

We have seen an active increase in the interest in career guidance at the time of the pandemic and the global crisis associated with it. Many areas of business suffered during that period, from small newsstands to international companies. People lost their jobs and were forced to look elsewhere. In order not to waste time on experiments, people were looking for specialists who help to understand their potential and find their professional purpose - to career specialists.

Demand creates supply. Courses and other educational programs for the training of professional specialists began to appear on the market. It is here that the stereotype is formed that a professional is a person who advises a client one-on-one, but in fact it is not so.

Career guidance is much broader than individual counseling and in this article we will talk about 6 additional opportunities that are in career guidance!

Possibility one.

You can work with a client not only individually, but also in a group. This approach is mainly applicable to teenagers who plan their future and choose their dream profession. They have relatively similar inputs and a single purpose. Group work with adults is less common, but also takes place.

Opportunity two.

Career guidance is not necessarily tied to a specific place. Career guidance can be remotely - in the online format, work individually or in a group.

Opportunity three.

Career guidance in 90% of cases is work for yourself with all the ensuing: finding customers, creating and administering an information platform with a list of services, advertising, BUT this list of functions can be reduced by starting to work, for example, with charitable foundations, implementing career guidance with different target audiences.

Possibility four.

Creating a non-profit organization is an option for those who do not like sales. By creating an NPO, you can attract various grants from the state and commercial organizations for your projects.

Possibility five.

Having studied the profession of a professional, for various reasons, not everyone is ready to start career-oriented clients. In this case, you can work as a methodologist, creating career guidance programs for schools, educational centers, companies, etc.

Possibility six.

Career guidance is in demand and popular. Now, on the basis of career guidance, many projects are being created in which you, having various additional competencies, can act as a consultant, coach, methodologist, developer, etc.

Career guidance is a place for everyone.

Career guidance allows you to choose how much you are immersed in it: hybrid (stay in your former field and work partially in career guidance) or full-time.

And also, career guidance is a great tool for personal therapy. We learn and develop about other people.
